International Handbook For Engineering Safety Management

iESM is the new, must use, easily accessible handbook to Engineering Safety Management for the international rail industry.

During its production, TPD has taken into account the practical application of engineering safety management particularly on rolling stock and signalling projects and their subsequent operation and maintenance. iESM includes learning taken from published literature on engineering safety management from different safety critical industries and takes into account the latest international rail standards.

Following a period of consultation with a number of interested railways, suppliers and consultants, a Specification for the International Handbook on Engineering Safety Management was completed by TPD and Arbutus Technical Consulting and reviewed by the iESMWG.

The following key inputs have been taken into account in preparing iESM:

  • Guide for the application of the commission regulation on the adoption of a common safety method on risk evaluation and assessment as referred to in Article 6(3)(a) of the Railway Safety V1.1 2009
  • EN50128 Railway Applications - Communication, signalling and processing systems - Software for railway control and protection systems 2011
  • Railway Applications - Communication, signalling and processing systems - Application Guide for EN50129 Part 1: Cross Acceptance PD CLC/TR 50506-1:2007
  • Railway Applications - Communication, signalling and processing systems - Application Guide for EN50129 Part 2: Safety Assurance PD CLC/TR 50506-2:2009
